The artist known as "Wallis" (b. 1959) calls New Orleans her home base. She is always on the move, traveling across the United States and Mexico by bus, stopping to live where she likes. Born on a 600 acre farm in the Australia outback, she and her six sisters began singing at church socials, and soon were performing as the "Wallis Sisters" on a weekly television program. Eventually they came to the U.S. and toured this country. Travel has always been in her blood. Wallis began painting in black and white on discarded cabinet doors and other found-objects. True to her musical roots she painted legends of jazz and blues. As she gained confidence she began to add color and broaden her subject matter. Her current work, done in brilliant colors on canvas is generally inspired by the worlds where she lives - places like New Orleans, Santa Barbara and Oaxaca, Mexico. She has been shown across the country and is featured in several House of Blues venues.
