R.A. Miller (b. 1912) was born and still lives in the town of Gainesville, Georgia. He has labored at uncountable dull jobs during his lifetime, but is now an artist and preacher at the nearby Free Will Baptist Church. He paints on cut tin and wood boards and makes whirligigs. His creations fill up his yard. Miller began to create after being stricken with glaucoma. He frequently embellishes his images of animals, dinosaurs, and neighbors (the often immortalized "blow oskar") with the religious message, "lord love you." He is collected across the country by galleries and museums, including the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Archives of American Art at the Smithsonian Institute, the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, Georgia, the Kentucky Folk Art Center and the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has been included in major exhibitions across the country, including Passionate Visions of the American South at the New Orleans Museum of Art from October 23, 1993 - January 30, 1994.
