New Orleans native Roy Ferdinand Jr. (b. 1959) draws and paints the world around him -- a world of poverty, drugs, hopelessness and violence. Most of his subjects are real people he sees every day. His pictures, done on posterboard with ink and tempera paint, tell important stories. They are not "pretty." Rather, they pack the punch of good photo-journalism. Ferdinand, Jr. is widely collected and has work in the Mississippi Museum of Art's folk art collection, the Saint James Place Folk Art Museum and the Art Museum of Southwest Texas. He has been included in many exhibitions including the show Outsider Art: An Exploration of Chicago Collections at the Chicago Cultural Center from December 9, 1996 - February 23, 1997.
